Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Now I know it is possible for me to lose weight. I started at the beginning of the year and I'm down 42 pounds. It has been a very long process. While I'm excited about the weight I've lost, I still have at least 58 more pounds to go and now I have the pressure of "keeping up" with the weight loss since people are now noticing that I'm getting smaller. I've added going to group workout classes (yoga and zumba) but my eating habits are far from perfect. I'm just wondering, what now? I don't want to get to comfortable at this weight but my motivational push is not the same. I need a constant reminder to make good food choices and not let my cravings get the best of me.

I know this is a difficult place to be.  It is a great time to really take stock of your meals and exercise.  At the risk of sounding really trite, weight loss is not the destination--it is the journey--and it is not going to end!  Even if you are at your "perfect" weight you will still need to be diligent about eating well and exercising to keep yourself from falling back into old habits and pant sizes.  So, that said, can you eat the way you have been eating for the long haul?  Or are you denying yourself too many foods that you enjoy?  Are you staying satisfied during the day--or are you constantly hungry?  Do you feel energized or worn out?

I know there were plenty of times when I had "plateaued" when I thought, maybe if I run 2X a day, maybe if I make myself skip evening treats, maybe I should give up cheese altogether, etc that I would get to my goal faster.  But then I was worried that I'd have to keep up those sacrifices and crazy exercise levels to maintain what I had achieved.  It was more important to me to keep plugging along, keeping track, getting back on track, finding new healthy satisfying food choices when the usual ones got boring, setting healthy limits on my alcohol and indulgences (mmmmm chocolate and high fat cheeses!).

So, after all that long winded-ness....  I'd say, work on your eating habits.  Visit a nutritionist, check out a healthy simple eating website.  Don't go for gimmicks or fads.  Find something that works within your life.  Add a new healthy behavior (drinking an extra glass of water or two a day, take a multivitamin, eat an extra serving of fruits and vegetables...) and really work at it until it becomes part of you.

Good luck and congrats on your success!  Keep us up on your progress.
