No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
Oops, so proud of my title that y'all almost ended up with a blank blog post. Fortunately, BTL is smarter than me (or at least requires less caffeine).
Since my usual weigh-in/meeting day is Wednesday, everything was delayed by a day because of the 4th of July holiday. I considered going on Tuesday instead so that the scale would not reflect any over-indulgences of the planned holiday BBQ or the lovely large bottle of double stout that I had chilling in the fridge-but that seemed less than honest. So, I was up by 0.6 lbs--which put me right at my goal weight. I will still need to be diligent this week since I used up quite a few of my weekly points on Wednesday.
Which brings me to my "a-ha thought of the week". Even though I'm supposed to eat more now that I have moved from the loss phase to the maintain phase--I still have the same weekly points budget. Now I'm sure that everyone who does the Weight Watchers thing has their own way of thinking about things--but here's how I look at it: The daily point allowance is to meet my nutritional needs, earned activity points are points I need to consume to refuel my body from exercise and the weekly points are so I don't feel like I am depriving myself of foods that I just plain old enjoy. So, INDULGING WHILE LOSING WEIGHT NEEDS TO LOOK THE SAME AS INDULGING WHILE MAINTAINING YOUR WEIGHT. I think this is going to be so important for me going forward. (RIght up there with accepting the fact that I don't look like Lara Croft Tomb Raider even though I am at my goal weight;P)
So, time to finish up the last of the coffee and put on the running gear. I've not been doing my "speed" workouts lately. I do miss the intensity a bit (that feeling of being a wrung-out wet washcloth when you finish) but I'm liking keeping things at more of an easy jog--or even just a brisk walk. I can't even blame the heat, the early am weather has been cool. I'm trying to decide if I am slacking or just listening to my body. How do you make that call?
Have a great Friday, leading into a wonderful weekend everyone!

Comment by Dee on July 6, 2012 at 3:59pm Wow good question about making that call. Sometimes a break is a good thing, and I like the idea of active rest, like the brisk walk, versus total on-one's-bottom rest. Sometimes, even when there's no injury, you have to listen to the part of your brain that might feel like it needs a mental health break from the hard work.
I love your conclusion about minding your calories- that line: "So, INDULGING WHILE LOSING WEIGHT NEEDS TO LOOK THE SAME AS INDULGING WHILE MAINTAINING YOUR WEIGHT." I think you can sub many words in place in of indulging, and have a plan for life: "exercise" "eating veggies" "planning meals" etc, etc. Forever, indeed!
Comment by Cindy on July 6, 2012 at 11:52pm Excellent Week 3 of maintenance! I wish I understood WW better to comment about the points but the idea of 'indulging is indulging no matter when you do it' does sound reasonable to me.
As far as the exercise, I think it depends on many factors - ie - how well you've nourished your body in the past 24 hours, how much sleep you've gotten, stress levels, boredom factor, etc. I had a day this week where I knew I just had to get in there and do a spinning class because there was no way I was going to do anything on my own. I just felt drained when I got there and throughout most of the class. Even if you go and feel better afterwards I think there is still a higher risk of injury, etc. Do you do other exercise besides running?
