Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Well, it was one of "learned something new today" type of races.  Let me share, bullet point sty-lah!

  • ALWAYS put your clothes out for yourself the night before so you can sneak out (Ninja style) out of your home w/o waking up your little ones.  I was wearing a pair of shorts I hadn't worn in a long time and while walking around my home, they started sliding off.  I changed after I found my normal shorts in the laundry room.
  • Make sure you ignore the rules about no head phones (ok, not if you're racing in the streets) because e/one else will be wearing theirs and you'll feel completely out of place without music when that's all you train with...
  • Make sure you turn on your HRM before the race to make sure the transmitter is working and in the right place.  I didn't and I ended up with no reading so I just turned it off.

Besides this greatly beneficial learning experience, the race was pretty awesome.  The runners were mostly from three running clubs and they were all wearing matching shirts, so I kind of stood out in mine...  My mom and I ended up taking a picture with the Mariachis!  He let me hold his guitar, :]

That's the Mexican soccer team shirt... I think.  I was told.  Who cares, it was green and it had pretty cool red detailing.  You can't see it, but it says MEXICO on the bottom part on the back of the shirt.  Look at my mom striking a pose!  LOL, she was so happy for me, she said she couldn't believe the things I did (racing, training, etc.).  

Aaaanyway, recap.  I finished at 32:48, :|  I guess I can blame it on the lack of music, or the lack of heart rate monitoring, or just being tired from the 5 miler two days before... I guess.  I'm a little upset b/c I was hoping to beat my last 5K time of 31:57.  I guess I could continue being upset but I'm just REALLY tired!  I've ran 14.69 miles in 2:41:37 hours.  I don't have much energy left to bitch.  Ok, just a little.  That's the most miles I've done in a very VERY long time.

This week has been good for training, the weather has been way nicer than normal.  I'm going to start waking up before 7 to be at the park running by 7:30 and be back at home by 8:45.  Ah, I feel ready for next weekend's race!!

Even if you didn't beat your record, congrats anyway!

I did a big 10k last year and didn't wear headphones because apparently they're banned at any race recognized by...whatever the governing body of such races is. It's supposed to be a safety issue, but if you're on closed streets, it seems like it wouldn't be a big deal. I guess if there's an emergency or something, you need to be able to hear the volunteers yelling at you or whatever, but unless your music is really cranked up, I think you'd be able to hear them.
