No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
The time is flying by here. Yesterday my husband and I met up with one of his old college friend and his wife. We went bike riding on the seawall for several hours. I did fine at lunch (black bean burger, side salad) but dinner was a bust (fish sandwich, french fries, margarita). Anyway, they've both recently lost a lot of weight on WW. She is at goal (maintenance, whatever they call it) and he has lost 45 and has about 40 more to go. They were really really nice people but o.m.g. we had to endure WW talk ALL DAY LONG. Points this, points that, non-stop. I do mean non-stop. I didn't mind it at first but it got so annoying as the day went on. I felt like I was being asked to join a religion. I mean I feel bad for saying I was annoyed because they were so nice but good grief already. Definitely a 'note to self: don't do that' moment. On top of the excessive Points talk all day I also screwed up my knee on the cheap bikes we rode. I didn't feel it until this morning but it rrreallllyyyy hurts so I'll need to lay off exercise for a few days.
I also found out from my husband that his sister has lost a LOT of weight on some hormone diet pill she is taking. 'Oh no' is all I could think. I hope she is able to keep it off but it's some pill that suppresses appetite and you have to exercise with it. Does anyone know what this is? My husband wasn't sure of the details at all but she has done several of these types of diets in the 15 years I've known her. It's a constant lose/gain cycle. I couldn't help but feel a little jealous when my husband said she looked her best ever even though I know this is such a dangerous and too fast of a way to lose weight.
I'm feeling bloated. You know that vacation bloat? We're not overeating or boozing it up or anything. I think it's an altitude adjustment and the general change in quantity and quality of foods we're eating.
We're at my brother's place for a few days - super healthy living. My SIL made an asian chicken salad tonight that was amazing and that was dinner for me. It was made with fresh cabbage, carrots, shredded chicken and some other goodies. Very filling and low-cal! Hoping to relieve some bloat if I eat lighter at night.
Trying to catch up with everyone's posts but I'm falling asleep so will be back asap!
Comment by Angie Y on July 20, 2012 at 4:00am Yay a blog from Cindy!! First of all the couple you were with sound like they were pretty effing obsessed! WW really rubs me the wrong way, anyone I know in real life that starts that program turn into pushers....like if you dont do WW you will never make it in your weight loss...pshh whatever. I'll do it my own way without your points this and meetings that..and save my money!! ahaha ;)
Confession~ I feel like I am that same annoying person on Fb sometimes! lol I do talk about my weight loss a lot! I'm not bragging or anything but posting about how hard this work out was and stuff like that....I bet people are annoyed. I am weight obsessed, it is all I talk about when hubby and I are together... lol It's just on my brain!!!!! Oh I also post those motivational posters a lot ....lol yeah I AM that annoying WW couple! lmao
I hope that knee feels better ASAP! That salad sounds like heaven! YUM!
Comment by fit4life on July 20, 2012 at 7:31am I agree about how annoying that is with WW people (my sister is one)...Don't look now, Angie: I've got FB friends who are obsessed with running and making sure they tell the whole world exactly how much better they are. I don't like to scream anything to the world and I wonder why they do it.
Comment by Erica on July 20, 2012 at 9:34am I think anything that you do that works you want to share because it could help someone. I'm sure they were just trying to be helpful, & thought that they were helping you. I've done WW on & off & let me tell you the whole points thing does get pretty consuming. I'm glad I'm going in a different direction this time. I didn't want to count points for the rest of my life & I know I'll have to monitor myself in some facet in order to maintain my goal. Maintenance is my own personal hurdle as it is for many people and points forever I just cannot commit to. But I don't want to knock WW because it does work and for many people it is their introduction to a lifestyle change and understanding what healthy eating is. Is the diet that your SIL doing a homeopathic version of the HCG diet? YIKES I hope not, that scares me! There is also The Hormone Diet, which looks good, but no mention of pills...
Comment by fit4life on July 20, 2012 at 9:43am I agree Erica, sharing success is important. I think it's the tone. I was dedicated to WW for about 3 months and did everthing as I was supposed to and GAINED wt. Talked to many people with the same experience and then some have wonderful success. I also think it's good if you need guidance. I use MyFitnessPal on and off and it's a good reality check for me as far as what I am consuming, but I wish I could be consistent without counting calories every day.
Maybe they assumed that you were interested since you were also on a weight loss journey? Like you had that in common? Maybe they were insecure that you didn't have anything in common any more and sort of clung to that?
Comment by Almost There on July 20, 2012 at 11:41am That is one thing I really love about BTL--when I've had enough, there is a nice little X on the tab :)))
Sorry to hear that so many of us WW'ers have so many of you annoyed--although truth be told, I get annoyed at meetings sometimes too. Ah well, to each his/her own.
I hate travel bloat. I honestly think mine originates from sitting on the plane or in a car for long periods of time. It is as if part of my digestive system shuts down. The elimination part and I will just leave it at that. Drink tons of water--maybe even hot with some lemon if you can stand it.
Sorry about the knee!
Comment by Nubia on July 21, 2012 at 9:57pm LOL, I used to talk a lot about WW to my parents because they needed to know there were other options than just cutting back on food. But we're annoying to each other like that, I wouldn't "talk WW" with anyone outside of my family. People already think I'm crazy and counting to them will sound even crazier.
I'm sorry about your knee! But hey, that salad sounds yummy. I have a bunch of cabbage and some cooked chicken bored with nothing else to do. I will try it tomorrow!
