No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
I went in this morning for my first physical therapy session. After waiting to get seen, the PT came in, did some motion tests (both active and static) and then stated that he doesn't see this kind of a rotator cuff tear in a 30 year old, even in a traumatic injury. He mostly sees this bad of a tear in 60 year olds. Then he said he wouldn't even see me until I was seen by the orthopedic surgeon, and he begged the dr.'s nurse until she got me in today because he said I was "that bad." Really not a good sign. I was almost hyperventilating as I left the office because all I could think about was that I would have to have surgery. I called my mom (that's what they are there for right?) and she calmed me down. I feel better now, but still nervous to see what I find out this afternoon. I'm assuming I'll need an MRI. From there...who knows? I really just want to be able to move my arm again and to RUN :)
Dropped hubby off at the hotel in STL last night since I was supposed to have PT this morning. Miss him terribly. It sucks to have him gone all the time. But being a single lady has its perks--I do what I want, when I want over the summer!
Here's the meal plan for today:
B: Emerald Nut and oatmeal cluster mix, OJ (8 oz)
L: hot dog on a bun (not sure if the hot dog is the low fat one or not...); watermelon slices
D: I'm wanting to cook, but I think it will depend on my emotional state after seeing the surgeon today. If I cook, I'm going to make a veggie sandwich (stir-fried zucchini, toasted bread, and a laughing cow wedge). If I order out, I will get a combo of two of either soup and salad, or one of those two and a sandwich...not sure yet. I'm really hoping just to make the sandwich.
Still sitting at 190. Woohoo! Hope to see a lower number by the end of the week!
Hi Brandy. Not sure we have connected before but wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you. Sounds like an awful experience....so much for bedside manner!! How did you hurt your rotator cuff?
Comment by Brandy on July 9, 2012 at 1:32pm Rhonda, thanks for the kind thoughts! The PT really was a nice guy--he just tells it like he sees it! I tore it by falling off of a bike and hitting a stone wall. I wasn't even fully on the bike before I fell. I'm just THAT graceful!
Yikes....sometimes injuries happen in the most bizarre ways! I hope your rehab isn't as bad as it sounds!
Comment by Almost There on July 9, 2012 at 2:04pm I am a big fan of BLUNT medical professionals. I swear sometimes these people try and beat around the bush and you have NO clue what they are trying to tell you. On the bright side--even if you need surgery--at least you know it now than after 6-8 weeks of pain and PT! Fingers crossed though that you just still have too much swelling for them to really know what is going on.
Too bad that dr got you all worked up like that. It was sort of cruel.
Comment by Brandy on July 9, 2012 at 6:19pm I was only upset because I was scared. I don't like the idea of having to get surgery at all and it just freaks me out. As far as the shoulder goes, I'm waiting for my insurance to approve an MRI. As soon as it is approved, I will go to the dr.'s office, where he will inject my shoulder with dye and then get an MRI. Kinda freaked out since the nurse warned me I may pass out (upon my question as to whether or not I could drive myself).
Comment by Cindy on July 9, 2012 at 11:55pm The good stuff first - Super congrats on your weight loss and staying at 190!!! Also, I hope you'll be able to look back one day with fond memories of your birthday celebration. ;)
MRIs are the best for getting to the root of the problem. I don't understand why you would pass out from one though. ??? Anyway, take care of yourself, don't overdo it and keep us posted.
