No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
I'm no meteorologist, but I think there is something different about the sun. Granted, I knew we were expecting highs near 100 and that I should run early, but I didn't get to sleep Sat night until around 3- was wired from an ill-advised evening macchiato. So by the time I laced up my shoes and took off, it was about 11am, and already 85 degrees. I wasn't looking forward to it, but I planned to run on a mostly tree-lined drive and brought a big bottle of water. I've run in higher temps in a tree-dense park, back when I was running with the Fleet Feet club, and made out ok. No such luck on this day. I had planned for 6 miles, made it 3 and called it a day.
Fast forward a few hours later, me waking up from a nap, with the worst headache that simply would not go away. I knew I had drank plenty of water, but there's a point where the dehydration is about other essential minerals and water can't replace those. I drank coconut water, ate a pickle, ate some watermelon. Still a splitting headache. A friend of mine happened to call, and reminded me of two miracle hydration foods: oranges and bananas. It was hard getting myself to the store- my head REALLY hurt!- but I did, and after I ate two clementines (no ripe oranges available) and a banana, I quickly started to feel like a functional human again.
Moral of this story: Get my butt out of bed to run early in the morning!!! Or skip it. I was determined to run on Sunday because I didn't run at all this past week, besides treadmill intervals. But it is not worth it to get sick over it!
Maybe the humidity socked it to you?
Comment by Cindy on July 9, 2012 at 11:49pm Oh no! Sorry, Dee. I hate those headaches that just won't go away no matter what you do. I've not heard of oranges or bananas as a natural remedy. I'll have to remember that.
I simply don't get the whole coffee at night thing or people who can drink a cup and crash out. I would have been up all night just like you were.
