Blog to Lose

No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!

Tonight is the last day of summer!  It's bittersweet for me, The Kid and I have pal'ed around all summer, more so then usual, since he hasn't known very many kids around here and now, here he is starting 2nd grade.  *sniff*  I am riddled with anxiety for him and hope he makes some good friends and doesn't have a hard time of it.  He had some problems with some other kids last year, and I'm hoping there aren't mean boys in his class this year.  Luckily, he doesn't let it bother him, but I totally let it bother me!  I know all Mom's go through it, but sometimes I wonder if it makes it worse that he's an only, and all I have to fester on!  He's really young for his grade and has a speech impediment, so hopefully no one will judge him too badly...  Fingers crossed for a good first day!

Today was great, it was a last day of summer blow out for The Kid.  We went on a bagel run with the dog, and enjoyed bagels outside.  Then I got in my very first outdoor run in ages!  I did about 2.5 miles and felt really good, it was great to get back outside again!  the biggest difference is our new neighborhood is seriously hilly!  My old neighborhood was flat as a pancake, so dang, once I get used to it, I will be in way better shape!  Then, The Kid and I went to Subway (again, his choice, I love how our Subway is next door to McD and he asked for Subway, love him!) and enjoyed a lunch date together.  Came home and went for a 40 minute bike ride with him.  He is trying really hard to get up this one hill, so we practiced it, didn't quite make it, but I told him with practice he would be able to do it soon.  Then we had a Meatless Monday tofu dinner (yummy baked tofu, quite nice) and went for a walk to the school to get The Kid's room assignment, did a lap of the neighborhood and then went to Pinkberry.  All and all a super nice day, and I'm within my calories!

Feeling good, going to hit the gym after drop off tomorrow and try not to fester on how the school day went.  Everyone keep their fingers crossed that I get to be Room Mom, i live for it ;-)

cheers~ lynette

Molly is an only- and I think that gives us more time to focus on our kids problems more.  I tend to get quite anxious over issues that my friends with more than one kid don't really bother with.  I try to remind of that when I am really stressed or anxious.  I also understand about bittersweet end of summer feelings.  While I cannot wait for school to start to have my own routine- I will miss spending time with Molly.  We have fun together!!!  Good luck with the first day of school.  Oh- Molly is going into 7th grade now- I cry the first day of school every year!!! :)

Glad to hear you got to run. A hilly neighborhood will give you cardio & resistance training! I hope you share the baked tofu recipe. The only way we serve it here is scrambled. Toss it in a tortilla with salsa. Hope your son had a great day at his new school. Maybe the move will be the best thing for him. He won't be dealing with those mean boys from last year.

Same bittersweetness here.  You sort of get used to having them around more often...

I kind of envy you those hills! Built in heavy duty workout land! Not sure where in the Bay Area you are, but if you're anywhere near Stanford you have to walk The Dish! It's on Foothill Expressway right past Page Mill Rd.  It's challenging and hilly but also incredible panoramic views of the Bay.

What a great way to spend the day--enjoying the outdoors, getting in some exercise, and some quality time together.  Your kiddo will have some great memories of time spent with you!  Hope the first day went well and that you got to be Room Mom!!
