No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
Ok, I need to vent about cancer.
Last night we found out the my husband's brother has cancer.
FIFTY years ago, when he was 5 years old, my bro in law had a Wilm's tumor--on his kidney--back then, it was rare to survive. He had the kidney removed and underwent massive radiation (Cobalt) treatments. He lived, he recovered, and other that being limited from doing certain contact sports, has led a relatively normal life.
Every year he has had extensive physicals and testing...ALL CLEAR!!!
In July he lost his appetite and started having pain in his side. He finally went in to the doctor when he could not stand up...He has a cancerous tumor the size of a grapefruit on his remaining kidney and adrenal gland and putting extreme pressure on his pancreas.. And, oh, by the way, A cancerous tumor in his colon also. They are still doing testing to check for other locations--lungs, bones, etc. They will do a risky operation in a couple of weeks to remove some or all of his remaining kidney--no transplants for people in his condition...no radiation because of the massive doses when he was a little boy...Chemo does not work on renal cell carcinoma. Sigh...A desperate position. None of the possible outcomes are good. He was 2 years from a cushy retirement.
Tonight we have to go over to their parents' house to be there when my bro in law calls to tell his parents. They have been waiting 50 years for this...everyone kept telling them it wouldn't happen. And here we are. Last time this happened their Dad had a total nervous breakdown and was in a mental institution for months....If you pray, please pray for us as we deal with this and try at least to help the parents.

Comment by Dee on September 5, 2012 at 1:38pm Very sad news. I hate that people have to confront these types of things in life. I am so glad that it seems you have such a close-knit extended family, so that none of you has to go through this alone. I wish your brother in law the very best possible prognosis.

Comment by fit4life on September 5, 2012 at 6:09pm Thank you ladies, for your thoughts and prayers.
I completely understand. My father died last April from renal (kidney) cancer. It was 4th stage when found and he had 1 removed. He did chemo & radiation. He kept believing he would be able to put the cancer to "sleep". Treatment allowed us to have him 2 1/2 years. I will pray so very hard for your family. Cancer really sucks.
