No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
It seemed at first like the week was going by so slow and then - WOW - tomorrow is Friday already. Around here it has been one crazy week. On Wednesday morning we got an e-mail that a colleague in our middle school got gravely ill and there was a desperate call for 65 blood donors for him. I went yesterday after school and they actually needed platelet donations more than whole blood. I felt so good being able to contribute to one big collection. It took almost 5 hours from start to finish (waiting time, etc) but it was worth it. They sucked out 4190 ml of blood, separated out the platelets and gave me my blood back! I had never donated platelets before so it was a great experience. It also made me realize that the little things really - no, really - do not matter. I hope I can remember that and I hope our colleague survives..........Needless to say, I didn't get to the gym yesterday but my eating was good. Today I went but barely had any energy despite a well balanced day of food and snacks. I think Brandy is right. It's just that time of year.
I'm off to bed and am so looking forward to another weekend.
Happy early TGIF!
Comment by Jill Mace on October 12, 2012 at 5:18am What a great thing you did! Sometimes we do get caught up in our own struggles and forget how lucky we are to have our health. Great reminder. I really hope your co worker is ok.
What a gift you have given another person. Thanks for the reminder of what is truly important.
Very time consuming. Just regular blood donations take forever w/me because I'm a slow flower.
Comment by Erica on October 12, 2012 at 1:04pm It's so nice that you were able to help! It is amazing when something happens in our lives, that makes us realize what is truly important.
Comment by Dee on October 12, 2012 at 2:33pm Whoaaa... this post stopped me in my tracks. The thought that someone can be so suddenly and desperately taken ill... and that their friends can do something to help and then really show up for him! That's amazing that you endured such a grueling process. I hope he pulls through. Take care of yourself, give your body time to adjust to your sacrifice! And my mind is, as always, boggled by what science can do!
