No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
I am thinking about stopping weight watchers. I lost 50 pounds a couple of years ago with them. I just am having trouble keeping focused this time.
Comment by Meg H on August 5, 2012 at 9:25am I did it all last year. Honestly, this year I cannot afford it. I recognize tracking is key, so I use MFP on my phone. I think when you have done it a long time like you have, you know the "rules" or the healthy guidelines. I bet you can do your own thing as long as you in some way track.
Comment by Jessica on August 5, 2012 at 11:27am I always say do what works best for you. If ww isn't working this time around, find something that does work for you. Maybe when you did it before, your lifestyle/circumstances were different.
Maybe myfitnesspal would work for you like meg said?
or maybe you need to start slowly and build on it if your focus is way off--maybe exercise 2 x a week for 20 minutes and then add on 10 minutes a week until you're up to an hour and then add a day on every other week? And maybe you can add tons more veggies in since this is the time of year that you have a large selection at better prices. :)
Comment by nancy martin on August 5, 2012 at 6:10pm I am one that has been on and off WW since the 60's. I know for myself that I need the meetings. I do better when I know I have to weigh in but that is not for everyone.
Comment by Cindy on August 6, 2012 at 12:46am I also think that doing what works for you and what you are comfortable with is the only thing that is important. I am not a fan of WW but I know it works for a lot of people.
Comment by Almost There on August 6, 2012 at 10:42am Hi Susan! Welcome to BTL! I know WW is not cheap--it took me almost 18 months to lose 50 pounds. I liked the tracking tool on my phone and the ability to calculate points for my tried and true recipes. I found the meetings to be a source of support with a bit of fun thrown in (usually--but not always) and I liked how the meeting topic would focus on a particular aspect of the program and why it was important (healthy fats anyone?). The program got me away from trying to minimize my daily calorie input while maximizing my daily calorie burn into a much more sustainable mode of basing my diet on fruits and veggies, being conscious of my choices and serving sizes and getting out there and moving. I think the $$ I was spending each month also helped my family realize that this was a priority for me. (Sorry to be so long winded here!)
On the other hand--I find that I have a lot more in common with the BTL'ers and I often come here for support, I have found that there are TONS of websites that will do just as good a job for tracking. (Does anyone know of a good site for calculating nutrition data for a personal recipe?) So far no one on here has gone on and on about how delightful their zero point recipe for sugar free jello mixed with fake noodles and topped with fat free non dairy topping is. Grrrrr.
I do agree with Keem too about building up slowly. Since you are familiar with WW, perhaps you are trying to conquer too much at once. Baby steps. ALSO--seriously think about what your goals are. Remember, this does take time. A pound or two a week--on average--is good. Don't expect to get down to the ultimate weight you want in just a few months!
Comment by Susan on August 7, 2012 at 8:38pm Thanks for all of the good advice. I am going to check out the app Jessica suggested. I have decided not to cancel anything just yet...but to try the app first. I think so often life just gets in the way of weight loss. But all of you guys were a great help on a very down day. Thanks again.
