No matter the plan... we all Blog to Lose!
Over the last 4 years on Weight Watchers, I have been on the road quite a bit--vacations, visitng family, etc. I wouldn't say that I have it all figured out, but I have learned a few tips along the way that at least help minimize the damage.
1. Keep 2 out of 3 meals a day "normal".--This is different depending on whether I am staying with family or in a hotel, but I try to keep my breakfast and lunch the same as I would eat at home. It's fairly easy to throw a box of oatmeal in my suitcase or make a grocery run once I get there. By keeping 2 meals in check, the 3rd isn't as big of a deal. I can typically eat a smaller portion of whatever is served and be ok. For example, next week our family is going to Disney. We plan to eat breakfast and dinner at the house we are renting and just having lunch at the park.
2. Control what you can--I was buying snacks for the road trip to Florida (16 hours with a 4 and 2 year old...fun) and my first thought was "I am going to be eating out so much--I might as well just get all the junk I want to eat in the car too". Wrong. I can easily be in control of what food I pack for the road. So instead, I chose low point items, weighed out a serving, and labeled the bag.
3. Find balance--don't let being outside your comfort zone be a reason to eat everything in sight--but don't be a grouch that misses out on all the fun because you are so stressed about food choices (I've done both. Neither worked well). Make the best choices you can--and splurge on things that are worth it that you may not have an opportunity to have again.
4. Move.--This shouldn't be a problem while we are at Disney next week. We will be walking, walking, walking. But some trips this one can be tricky. I bought a set of resistance bands that don't take up much space and can easily be thrown in a suitcase. There are TONS of resistance band workouts online that I can access for free. Youtube also has lots of workout videos and most gyms will even give you a free trial.
5. Last, be realistic--I know that more often than not I am not going to lose weight while I am gone and I may even have a small gain. That's ok. The most important thing for me is to make sure that the FIRST meal back from vacation I am right back in my groove. It was never the vacation that derailed me, it was the week after that I drug my feet and didn't get back to what I know.
