Travel tips

Over the last 4 years on Weight Watchers, I have been on the road quite a bit--vacations, visitng family, etc. I wouldn't say that I have it all figured out, but I have learned a few tips along the way that at least help minimize the damage.

1. Keep 2 out of 3 meals a day "normal".--This is different depending on whether I am staying with family or in a hotel, but I try to keep my breakfast and lunch the same as I would eat at home. It's fairly easy to throw a box of oatmeal in my…

Setting a Goal--and staying there

Paula asked a couple questions about setting a goal, so here goes. I certainly don't have it all figured out. The first time I did Weight Watchers I lost 65 pounds, kept it off for 1.5 years and then put almost all of it back on! I learned a lot from that experience--like don't do anything to lose weight that you won't do to keep the weight off. That time I was super strict, lost every week, and hardly indulged. I also wasn't very fun to be around. Haha. And when I got tired of living that…

Better with Age

Today is my birthday--I turned the big 3-5. Honestly, I never really understood the big freak out about getting older, but maybe that's because I feel like I am getting better with age. Haha. At 35 I am more confident in my own skin, feel strong and capable, and like where I am in life. I have an amazingly supportive husband and 2 great kids (that only drive me crazy some of the time. lol). Sure, there are always things that could be better, but I am living a pretty blessed life.…

What's cookin'?

So, it's been awhile....in the past that would have meant that I fell completely off the wagon, wasn't living a healthy life, and so I was avoiding this place. Not this time! Life is just busy with 2 kids, working, and trying to spend some time with my husband. Life is also kinda boring at maintenance. In the past, I loved posting about weekly progress, sharing pictures, or talking about challenges. Now it just kinda seems like the same old boring talk all the time. However, I will try and…

Still Steppin'

I just completed the 2nd week of my StepBet Challenge. So far, so good. I have been able to hit my goal Mon-Sat and then take a rest day on Sunday.

It has definitely motivated me to move a lot more. My husband is participating also, so we've been holding each other accountable. We are…

StepBet--My Next Challenge

I've known for awhile that I needed a new challenge--beyond the scale, so when I saw StepBet I decided it was just what I needed for now. Here's how it works: I signed up and paid my $40 fee. They assign me an "active" goal (9,259 steps) that I must meet 4 days a week and a "stretch" goal (12,859 steps) that I must meet 2 days a week. And that leaves one free day a week. These goals were chosen for me based on my past FitBit data. Honestly, I rarely make it to 10,000 steps unless we go for a…

Another Yum

Another Emily Bites success. We tried out the Layered Chicken Enchilada Bake and it was delicious. It was a too spicy for the kids, but my husband and I both enjoyed it.

The best part is that…

Dinner time

I'm always looking for new recipes--specifically ones that the whole family will enjoy. I like recipes that have normal ingredients (and preferably not too many) and that don't take forever. Let's be honest, it's not easy to create a masterpiece with 2 sous chefs at my feet. So whatcha got, ladies? What are some of your go-to meals that are sure to please the whole family (and be good for the waistline?)

My favorite site is Emily Bites. I haven't liked her newer stuff as…

Through the Years

Nine years ago on this day, I said "I do" to the most supportive, loving man that would do anything for his family. These milestones always make me a little sentimental of my journey through the years. Someone joked the other day that as they walked through my house that it was my own progress photo series.

When I met my husband I was in the process of losing 65 pounds with Weight Watchers (the first time).…

These Days...

...things are going well. I'm liking where I am at these days. I have taken a break from intensively tracking, but that doesn't mean I'm not keeping an eye on things. I eat similar breakfast and lunches that I mentally know the points for and my dinners are typically in the same point range each night. The main thing I need to do is just pay attention to my indulgences. I have found that I can have a couple splurges a week and still maintain (or possibly even lose a little). If I start to…

Good News/Bad News

I finally pushed myself out of my comfort zone and went to the other Y location for one of the classes. It is actually closer to my house, but I had been going to a different one because I had a friend that went there. My friend moved across town, so she doesn't go to the Y anymore. I figured it was the perfect time for me to try out the closer location. I heard that the bootcamp class was good, so that's what I went for.

Good News: I loved the class. She did what she calls…

Family Fitness Fun

I am trying really hard to set a good example for my kids. I want them to know that life can be lived in balance--with plenty of healthy foods and occasional treats. But even more than that, I want them to grow up with a love of being outside and being active. I want them to love the way it feels to get out and move. I want them to remember the days of heading outside after dinner in the summer and staying out until it is time for bed. Recently, we've been going for a family walk/ride after…

Flex Friday

I hit gym again today for my Max Out class. This is currently my favorite class. It is half spin/half bootcamp style class. I still don't love spin and probably wouldn't do a whole class that was spin--but it's a nice change of pace and a good calorie burn. The bootcamp part is definitely my favorite. I had 3 different people compliment me on my progress and asked what I was doing to lose weight (I started at this gym when I was already pregnant, so no one has seen me at this weight). Funny,…

Bored

One thing is for sure--maintenance is pretty boring. I find myself not having much to talk about and in general feel a little lost. I am such a goal oriented person and I love to see the number on the scale drop (who doesn't?) that once I get to goal I don't really know what to do with myself. I know that health is about so much more than a number, but when you take that part of it away, it is easy to feel like something is missing. Honestly, I'm pretty bored with my workouts too. The Y is…

4 Years

4 years? Can it be true? My son turned 4 last Friday, which has become somewhat of an "anniversary" of sorts for my lifestyle change. Sure, it didn't happen on the day he was born, but he was one of the biggest motivating factors to get my butt in gear. I joined Weight Watchers when he was about 2 months old and soon after started at the gym.…

What Now?

I'm at goal, now what? Honestly, that is a good question and one I am still trying to figure out, quite honestly. I've been through maintenance before, so I know what to expect, but I'm just not quite sure how I am going to tackle it this time. The way the Weight Watchers plan is designed, when you hit your goal weight, you add 6 extra points a day for maintenance. You have a 6 week period to kinda play around with this number and see what is right for you. If  you find that you are still…

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

You guys, I did it! 13.5 months after my daughter was born I am FINALLY officially back at my lowest adult weight. That makes me down a total of 68 pounds from my highest weight--41 of which I put back on during pregnancy and have now taken off again. In fact I have made it to goal 3 separate times with Weight Watchers--65 pounds before I met my husband, 68 pounds after my first baby, and 41 after my 2nd. That's a lot of pounds. I hope to never have to lose that amount again. Now comes the…

You're not going to believe it

...but I am sick--AGAIN! Our family has always been relatively healthy, but these past two months have done me in. First we had the stomach bug (the kids and myself), then the flu (the kids and myself), then my daughter had a random fever virus, and now I have strep throat! I felt totally fine when I woke up yesterday and by evening I was miserable. Sore throat, tender glands, white patches on my throat--I knew exactly what it was. I went to the clinic first thing this morning and sure…

My Loves

One of the best things I did before having each kid was book newborn, 6 month and 1 year pictures. Otherwise it just gets crazy town, before you know it that time has passed, I forgot to book them and I just say "forget about it" I distinctly remember with my son that I was excited when picture time came around because I was losing weight, but I was not 100% happy because I was still pretty far from goal at his first birthday. This time I didn't even stress about it (well, except for the…
