The scale was all over the place again this week, but today's weigh-in was 163. Two down from last week and enough to have me in a much happier place today. I'm trying very hard not to think about the fact that I kind of expected to be at 163 two weeks ago...
I was a little over on calories again, my daily average was 1,549. But I stepped up the exercise a little bit and did 106 minutes (31.8 miles) on the exercise bike, got a 1.9 mile (33 minute) walk in and, over the course of the… Continue

The scale was all over the place this week, some days down, some days up. Today's weigh-in was 165, which us up .4 from last week, and yeah, I am a little put out. After reliably dropping like a rock for four straight months, I have been hovering around 165 for pretty much the entire month of May, and while I am trying to be patient and not let the number on the scale ruin my motivation, it TOTALLY IS RUINING MY MOTIVATION.
My average daily calories were a little bit high at 1,589.… Continue

This morning the scale was at 164.6, a pound down from last week, and even after my little gain of last week, I'm down .4 from the week before. Which is pretty much what I expected, although I had a lot of moments this past week were I was very tempted to just throw in the towel and start calling it "maintaining." It is so hard to stay motivated in this thing.
My daily calorie average was a little high, 1,535. The overage happened mainly on Saturday, when feeling bad about my… Continue

Well, today’s weigh-in was 165.6. Apparently, my regular mid-month stall turned into a little bit of a gain this time.
The thing is, though, my daily average calories for the week were 1,509, I spent 104 minutes on the exercise bike (30.5 miles), and also did many, many reps with the 5 lb. hand weights and a bunch of lunges/squats/crunches/pushups.
I did go over my calories on Mother’s day last Sunday. My daughter wanted to take me out for my favorite breakfast—waffles—and… Continue

I really thought maybe last week’s weigh in was a fluke, and that some of it would come back this week, but this morning the scale said 165. That’s down 1.4 from last week.
Ladies and gentlemen, the weight on my drivers license is now officially correct.
Cash in your life insurance, because I’m pretty sure that’s one of the seven signs of the apocalypse. Tomorrow I’m gonna go get myself my first pedicure of the season as a reward.
Also, I didn’t even… Continue

I don't know what happened this week, but the scale this morning said 166.4--which is a 3.2 drop from last week. Glancing through my previous blog posts, I believe that's the biggest one-week drop I've seen since I started here at the end of December. Fitday.com says my average weekly loss since then is just under a pound, and this week's drop is THREE TIMES that. The heck? I suppose it could be a combination of recovering from last week's hotel meetings--eating healthy again (much less sodium)… Continue

Today is four months. Here's my graph:
(I figured out how to get it to show more than two months. Go me.)
One interesting thing I noticed looking at this today is that I seem to have a very regular mid-month plateau around the 15th, followed by a steep drop the following week. Girl stuff, I suppose, but good to know.
Over the last couple of weeks the weather has been nearly summery here in Minneapolis. I bought… Continue

It's over. What I did right: On all three days of meetings, I skipped the breakfast buffet at the hotel and ate at home before I left. I drank lots of tea during the meetings. During lunch and breaktime snacks, I tried to choose mostly fruits and vegetables, and foods that would be absolutely worth the extra calories. In the evenings, I did not succumb to the "well I've already blown today, so I might as well go ahead and binge on whatever I want tonight" temptation.
I won't say it… Continue

Today's weigh-in was 169.2. Only a .6 drop for the week, but still in the 160s. My average daily calories for the week were a bit high at 1,664. That was almost entirely due to Easter brunch.
The good news is that I did a good job of staying away from the candy. I indulged in one serving of Jelly Belly jelly beans, and one small, really good piece of hazelnut chocolate. Both were totally worth it. Where I ran into trouble was brunch, more specifically the beverages again. I was so… Continue

Today's weigh in was 169.8, down 1.4 from last week. Hellooooooo 160s! WOOT!
For the record, I am now within 4.8 lbs. of the completely fabricated and never once even remotely true weight on my drivers' license.
Average calories for the week were right on at 1,467, which, again seems like a small miracle. My sweetie and I attended the Twins home opener on Monday night, and instead of automatically having a hot dog at the game, I made a big healthy dinner for us beforehand.… Continue

Weighed in at 171.2 this morning. That means that I've finally crossed the 20-pounds down mark, and I'm only 2.2 pounds away from my mini goal with 2.5 weeks to go. Considering that I seem to be averaging about a pound a week, it's going to be close.
Average calories for the week were right on target at 1,444. The only dicey day was Thursday, when I had lunch out with my daughters and my daughter's friend. I had an authentic Mexican take-out dish called a huarache (because it's… Continue

I just bought a pair of size 14 pants. And two size 14 jackets. I haven't fit into size 14 anything since before I had my daughter. She's 17.
Our big three-day quarterly meeting at work is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I knew I needed some new clothes to wear because my old dress pants are quite literally falling off me, and my jackets look like clown clothes. But somehow I didn't really believe it until I was in the dressing room and they really and truly did fit. No… Continue

172.8 today, which means I re-lost the.2 I was up from last week, and unloaded another 1.2 lbs. this week. My calorie average was 1,395, which is kind of surprising to me because I felt like I was jonesing HARD for carbs much of the week. Wednesday, especially, I just really wanted candy and cookies. Driving home from work, I was actually fantasizing about french fries and movie theater popcorn. I haven't had a lot of days like that, so it caught me by surprise a little. I sort of turned it… Continue

I ran yesterday. I can't remember the last time I went for a run, it's been at least a year and a half. My shoes were actually dusty.
I went a mile and a half on one of the routes I Google-mapped last week. Walked the first block, stopped halfway and walked about a block, and then ran the rest of the way, and while the whole thing took me all of 19 minutes, I pretty much felt like I was going to die afterwards. Today I am sore in my hips and my ribs (it hurts to laugh...), but it's… Continue

Weighed in at 174.2 this morning, which is up .2 from last Saturday, but actually a huge relief. I don't know if it was my sweetie's birthday dinner, the popcorn I had at the movie that night, if it was a hormonal thing or what, but on Sunday morning I had gained 1.8 lbs., which turned in to a full-on two pounds later in the week.
I tried not to get too wound up about it, but it was really kind of a bummer. I spent a lot of time reading through Pasta Queen's archives… Continue

174.0 today! That's down 2.8 from last week! WOOT!!
I was back on it with the workouts, and added a couple of new songs to my iPod workout mix. They must have been good choices because even though my minutes on the exercise bike stayed about the same--103 total--my mileage went up to 31.5. So, friends, consider adding the following to your workout playlist:
Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat--Beck
Peek-A-Boo--Siouxsie & the Banshees
Do You Want to--Franz… Continue

Today the sacle says 176.8, that's down .8 for the week. I'm happy with that, considering that I've been sick as a dawg since Wednesday night and only got two workouts in this week. Keeping track of calories has been pretty easy, since all I've felt like eating is toast, soup and sorbet. I thought I'd be way low on my calorie counts until I realized that there are about sixty calories in a cup of hot tea with honey, and I've been chain drinking those to soothe my sore throat. I haven't looked… Continue

Today's weigh-in was 177.6, down another 1.4 lbs. Which means that after two months, I've lost 14 lbs. Not bad.
I'm starting to have trouble staying motivated, though. I'm not having cravings really, but I'm tired of all my diet food. I'm bored with my workout. I'm tired of having to weigh and calculate and look up and log everything I eat. I feel a fall off the wagon coming on and I don't know what to do about it. I don't know how people who've lost a whole lot of weight stay with… Continue

Down another .8 this week to 179 even.
I had the HONGRIES all week. Could have been a hormonal thing, I don't know. I did give in to cravings a couple of times, but made sure to measure all portions and logged everything, so it was okay.
My daily calorie average was 1,530 for the week, very close to on target in spite of my nibbles.
I was on the exercise bike for 96 minutes/27.4 miles. I've been logging my exercise minutes and miles in a steno pad since I… Continue

The week of meetings went better than it could have, but not as well as I had hoped. I'll go ahead and leave it at that. I forced myself on the scale last Saturday morning to assess the damage and had gained three pounds, which means that I had essentially undone a week's worth of work. But I got right back at it--I was motivated to be out of the 180s. And today the scale is at 179.8. Let's hear it for the 170s, y'all.
My calorie average was 1,385 for the week, and I was on the… Continue
