Whole30

Its May 31st and tomorrow will mark the start of another strict Whole30 Challenge for me.  Today I've begun the preparation with grocery shopping and a trip to the farmers market for lots of fresh locally grown fruits and veggies.  I'm also making sure that I make good eating choices today ... kinda wean myself off crap.

While planning, my husband informed me that I need to get a menu together so that he can make sure I stay within the guidelines.  That's a good thing.  He is one that…

Motivation Tips (long)

Saw this on Sparkpeople and thought it was good.   At least one will likely resonate.

  • Impossible = I’m possible
  • Fail to plan = plan to fail

  • “Just Do It” Nike
  • “If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of anyone else.” Father Richard Lesnick

Flex Friday--Leg Edition

My legs have always been thick. They will probably always be thick. It's just the way I am naturally built. With shorts season upon us, I've been taking more notice of my legs. I guess my husband has too (haha) because the other day when I was walking back to the car from the gas station he commented that my legs were looking good. My upper thigh still needs some work, but my quads are coming in nicely.…

I'm done

I did this to myself. I wear a back brace b/c my abs are too weak and my muscles in my back are overworked. I have had problems since I had my baby almost a year ago. I have never had this much extra skin. I can't wear my wedding ring. I look older than I am b/c of the extra skin. I am so tired of this. I have to make some changes. This is not me! I disgust myself. My crippled mom is smaller than me. I wish my husband understood. But he doesn't and I can't talk to him about it.

Week 2 Day 1

I'm at week 2 day 1 of C25K program. it's been feeling really good to get out there and start, slowly but surely, jogging again. This weather is so nice to be outdoors and stay active!!!

Still need to work on food part. it has been so hard with Memorial weekend parties, and graduation parties.

Change is a Comin!

I had a mini-breakdown last night. I have been going to Spin Class off and on for about a month. Eating healthier.( After deciding last year that THIS time was going to be different,  This is after running again (against doctor's orders)-my back is in terrible disrepair). After downloading Lean Secrets in December I took my measurements 12/31. I decided last night to see how far I have come. Progress? Ugh. I have lost 1/2 inch on my thighs. Butt is the same. Chest is 1 inch larger (I wish)…

Blessed Day!

Breakfast and Lunch were quite healthy today.  I love it when I can impress my boss, who is a Registered Dietitian, with my good eats that I pack for work.

Breakfast was a banana omelet with a drizzle of agava syrup and some coffee w/creamer.

Lunch was a Turkey, Lettuce/Tomato sandwich on Ezekiel bread and a banana.  I also had a seltzer water to wash it down.  Later in the day, I wanted to reach for a snack, but resisted.  Which was a good thing.  Cause when I got home from…

From 49 to 50 Fit & Fabulous

I'm Michelle and I wanted to say HI and just tell you a little on how I got here.

As I walk I usually listen to podcast from Heather at Half Size Me. I love to listen to peoples success stories and as I listen I go over in my mind what mine would sound like to others. When I heard Roni's podcast I was so excited to hear about this blogging website because I also…

Another challenge for me

I've been reading Dr. Neal Barnard book. He wants people to try a vegan diet for just 21 days. Since I am already a vegetarian, I could take it one step farther right? I am not ready to go super extreme, I want to include some fats like avocado & olives, but I am good with not cooking with vegetable oils. So my goals for the next 21 days is

1. No…

Still working out. Last week was a flop. I didn't eat right. Too many damn parties.  Blah Blah. Felt horrible about it. Still feel horrible about it. Need to start posting here regularly again. Miss my girl gang. Hope you are doing better than I have been. Sigh.  Im on this. I lifted this…

NSV's

Had a great Memorial Day weekend and got in three 3 mile walks and was happy that my first bike ride of the season was the easiest ever.  All the cardio and weights really made a difference.

Saw an article on weight loss (I'm a sucker for those things) and the more important task of weight loss maintenance. At the end of the article was this sentence, that really struck me as so true: "At its heart, weight loss will happen if you just learn how to …

Summer's here

Feels like forever since I blogged last.  I've been so busy.  I need to get on here more often like I used to.

Weightwise-I haven't weighed in for over a year.  Even though I'm sure my weight went up from one year ago, it's all good.  I was so tired of everything in life having to do with numbers--numbers of calories in--numbers of calories burned--numbers on the scale----the disappointment if I put on a few---the elation if I dropped a few--it was like a number obsessed mental…

BLAH!

This weekend was the perfect reminder of why I eat the way I do. Because if I don't....I feel like crap. I was away at the in-laws for the weekend. They are notorious for taking us out to eat for dinner every night we are there. And they are typically little hole in the wall, local joints with no nutritional information listed. One night it was italian the other night mexican. I'm sure I could have found something healthier on the menu, but I didn't. Boy, is my body letting me know…

Still Going...

Yesterday morning I got in a 4.30 mile walk in 1hr 20min.  It felt really good, especially following my first run the day before with Couch 2 5K.

Later in the afternoon my hubs and I went to our very first Wine Festival.  What a blast.  However, I am sun burnt.  Guess wine and sun don't mix very well.  I was a little careless and forgot sunscreen.  They had live music and food at the festival.  And although I knew that I had a renewed commitment to my health, I also was making the…

Is This In My Nature?

I woke up early this morning, threw on my work out clothes, kissed the husband goodbye, and hit the gym.  It felt like second nature.  Could that even be possible?  After all the years of fighting for my health am I secretly someone who likes to work out?  I gasp at the possibility!

Regardless, I killed my 30 minute work out on the elliptical by completing a personal goal of two miles in 30 minutes.  I actually rocked 2.09 miles.  Very happy with that!  Guess I need a new…

Get your skates on!

Well, my skates have arrived.I can stand up in them (on carpets). But I need to go and get some safety gear before my first skate. I used to love skating in my teens and I hope it's as easy as I remember. What's your sport/hobby of choice?

The big question though...why doesn't the…

Head Games

Despite the fact that I have been unable to change my eating habits, I have been going to the gym on a much more consistent basis.  Today I had a horrible case of negative self talk.  I made it about three minutes on the elliptical before it kicked in... You're sore today just make it to five minutes and hit the treadmill...  The husband is still at home in his jammies why should you be at the gym alone...  You know you are going to eat out later any way so why bother wasting your morning…
