About Me:
I'm a 35 year old woman, and I've struggled with weight my whole life starting from the time my gymnastics coach told my mom I needed to lose weight at the age of 8 (and I was a chunkier kid...but very flexible and very strong!). I've never had success at losing and keeping it off. I'm 5 feet 5 inches and the lowest I've ever been is 149 (as an adult anyway). This was after about 6 months on Jenny Craig. I was in college and had no idea how to keep it off. Before too long, I was in the 180s and just kind of stayed there for several years. I would go down to the 160s with a brief stint on Weight Watchers, but "life" always seemed to get in the way....I've come to hate the phrase "Life just got in the way." If something's really important, life shouldn't get in the way - thus the name of my blog.

I had my first kid, an amazing, beautiful boy in November of 2006. In May of 2008, I had my second kid, a beautiful baby girl. In this process, my weight got up to 245 (after losing the baby weight!). I tried to not gain so much, but actually, not really!

I have an incredible relationship with my husband, a great job, a wonderful home, and so much to be grateful for. I'm tired tired tired tired of my body image getting in the way of all that is good. So, I'm doing it right this time. I love to cook, I love to experiment, and I'm going to do it this time! And it's going to feel AMAZING!!!

Here I sit in San Diego having tagged along with my husband on a work trip. We came out for the weekend and had a lot of fun. We needed time together in a really bad way without any distractions. It's been really nice.

I'm not doing well on the weightloss front and I don't know why. I know I'm eating what I shouldn't but I don't know why I am doing this when I so badly want to be healthy. My workouts have sucked. As soon as I started meeting up with my trainer again, I threw out my… Continue

Two Epiphanies Today

Posted on March 4, 2009 at 9:30am 0 Comments

So, as I was driving to work this morning, I had two great thoughts. The first was that in general, for one of the first times in my life, I am happy. ***Realizing I'm on anti-depressants for postpartum but still***. I have had quite a journey. My husband and I lived in two different places for 8 years while we were working on grad school. As a result, I have 2 masters degrees and he has a PhD - all from very prestigious universities. We are both in jobs where we are doing exactly what we set… Continue

I can't even talk about it...

Crap. Crappity crap crap crap. I had two bad days this week and they weren't even that bad. I'm so mad at myself. I'm working on moving on, but it's not going well. I don't even have an excuse for having bad days. My week was fine. Emotionally I'm fine. I just decided to eat and had a gain of 1.2. That's only a 4.4 loss for the month of February. Crap. Crappity crap.

I've got to work out. I've got to put that in my daily plan. It's just not happening.

I'm not committing.… Continue

Weekly Weigh-In :)

Posted on February 23, 2009 at 9:04am 2 Comments

Ok, down 2.2 today! Yay!!! I'm having a little bit of remorse about my gain last week as I'm so excited to hit the 30 pounds loss mark. But I know it's coming. I thought today would maybe be a little bit more...but 2.2 is a GREAT loss! One more weigh-in for the month of February and then I'll do my monthly loss. That helped motivate me a lot when I was losing weight after baby #1.

This week's goals:

1) Three runs

2) Two weight training days (or weight videos)

3)… Continue

Small Victories to Note :)

Posted on February 22, 2009 at 9:19pm 2 Comments

I weigh-in tomorrow and I'm not sure where I'll be. I had a generally GREAT week and am feeling really good about myself. I had a snack attack one night before dinner and a splurge on Japanese food...but what's funny is my snack attacks and splurges are on things that aren't so bad. I'd pick too much avocado roll over too many Doritos any day!

BUT, I wanted to post about some small victories. They call them NSVs, but I prefer small victories because in the end, the ultimate victory… Continue

Love your ticker... I'm a teacher.. that's perfect!
To answer your question about the 30 day shred, it's an exercise vid by Jillian Michaels of Biggest Loser. I have access to it through my On Demand from the cable company. I believe it's also an actual video that can be purchased. The idea of it is kind of like Curves (or what I've heard of Curves). She (Jillian) takes you through 3 "circuits", each being 6 minutes. 3 minutes are strength training. For instance, first circuit ST is bunch of push ups (they SUCK! :), then squat/press (maintain arms at 90 degrees, fists toward ceiling during squat, then when come up, press arms up to ceiling, then back down to 90 degrees), and then something else (I think); then repeat! Then 2 minutes cardio (ex: jumping jacks and butt kicks). Finally, one minute of abs (most are usual, classic moves). So, it does something like that 3 different times, each time with different moves. It's only 20 minutes, maybe a little over with the cool down. I am super weak and I managed to do it okay with only a break or two here or there. It's definitely a good workout. If you have good stamina already, you can do something like elliptical or treadmill in addition to the video. Anyway.. sorry that was so long, but hopefully I answered your question :)

P.S. I just read your profile info. It's so inspiring. I am not blowing smoke. It made my eyes well up! It's so great to come to this community and see so many people who struggle with the same thing and to have such a positive outlook. I, too, am so sick of letting my poor body image get in the way of me doing... well, anything! That's why my name is called "not another birthday will pass!" I am 29 and I have spent the last 16 years obsessing about my weight and hating myself. I am tired of being miserable. I just hope that in the process of losing (hopefully, and hopefully for good) that I learn to let things go, not to sweat the small stuff, not to let food run my life (I don't want to live the next 60 years obsessing about NOT eating "this" or "that"). Congrats on coming back and the loss so far. It's very commendable! :) Thanks for the inspiring story.

I definitely think I stay a veg because of the discipline in it :) I also like animals, so it is partly that too. How is your BTL experience going so far?

My boyfriend likes to weigh himself periodically so I dont think Id get away with stashing it in the car! We definitely could try once a week...its so tempting, but its one of those things that you should 'resist' ya know? I kind of get to the point where I check after I eat & then again after I pee just out of curiousity! I have much better things to do!

I just read todays post & Im sorry you are a bit down! Hang in there, any small step is a step in the right direction. The behaviors we are learning now take time to transform into lifelong habits! We all have those days :) Make this week even better!
