a new day, a new lady

Profile Information

About Me:
Hi, my name is Kristi and I’m a 24 y.o employee for the University of Texas. I’m that classic girl that has always struggled with her weight. I reached my highest weight my senior year of high school, weighing in at around 230 lbs. Large, I know. I strangely had no idea exactly how large I was until I started to lose weight (this was a blessing AND a curse). Through the help of a diet pill, strict food diet and exercise I managed to get myself down to 200 lbs. I was very proud of myself and ready to continue on the war path but freshmen year of college was calling my name and so were the freshman 15. Yup, I gained that. Put me at 215 lbs end of freshman year and yoyoing between 205 - 215 lbs all the way through my second year of college. This was when I first decided to join Weight Watchers. My mother proposed we do it together. It was summer, I figured why not try it out. The weight literally fell off of me! I didn’t feel like I was doing anything, just counting those points and it was so easy and the weight just fell off. It was amazing! I was almost to my 40 lb marker (169.4lbs, giving me a grand total of almost 65 lbs on my total weight loss journey) when I had to change migraine medications. Suddenly I couldn’t lose that last .4 lbs, I couldn’t lose anything. I was eating the same exact meals, working out 5 days a week, hadn’t changed a single thing about my diet and exercise and I was gaining weight. It was the most frustrating and depressing experience. First 5 lbs came back on, then 10 lbs and eventually with the pressures of my last year of college, my performance choir, my job and facing graduation, I stopped attending meetings and even really trying to count points. Finally upon reaching 190lbs again, I vowed to make a change and not gain another pound. I started taking steps toward gaining back my health, smaller body and ultimately reaching my final goal (140lbs). I began attending meetings regularly again. I also joined 24 Hr Fitness and hired a personal trainer and then promptly herniated two discs in my lower back while working out with my trainer :( This put me out of commission for almost 6 months! Needless to say, I gained weight being bed ridden. Then after I was finally able to return to work and go out with friends again, I gained weight just due to being social again but not physically being able to work out to counteract my eating. All summer long I have been attempting to get back into the swing of things. I began this by walking in a 10K on August 31, 2008. It was a really amazing feeling to have that accomplishment and I hope it sets the tone for the future accomplishments to come!

I really have come to LOVE blogging. I blog for several reasons but I think the main reason I blog is to keep me accountable. I know that one of my main weaknesses is emotional eating, namely bored eating. I do fine with normal meal portion sizes, its when I am by myself with nothing to do that the food sabotage begins. I am hoping that instead of eating, I will bring myself to the computer and blog it out, write out my boredom.

I also hope that through blogging and reading other people’s blogs I will gain some of my confidence back. I was the MOST confident large girl around and due to that, I didn’t know my size other than I was “a little overweight.” Losing weight made me the most body conscious person and I absolutely hate it! I mean, I have confidence for sure I still have confidence to the point that I will go to the pool or the beach in a bikini, no problems. But I am constantly aware of myself now. The funny thing is, looking back at pictures of myself from 2 years ago when I was at my lowest weight, at that time I was so not satisfied and I couldn’t wait to lose more, now I look back and say “Damn, I looked good!” So I hope this time around I will really see myself, see the progress I’ve made, use the body consciousness to a positive degree.

Finally, like the title says, I am doing this for me. In the past something has always fueled the weight loss. Be it graduation and going off to college or I’m sad to say, looking good for that special someone. It’s not about any of that this time around. It’s about me loving myself, being comfortable and happy with myself. After all, if you don’t love yourself, no one can and no one can love you the way you can love yourself. So all of this is what I hope to achieve. Today IS a new day, and I WILL become a new lady!

I'm a gym rat ALL the way

Ok so this page is a work in progress but I have a couple notes jotted down in my journal so I figured I’d go ahead and add them here. My goals are EXTREMELY rational, slow, taking it a step at a time. I just don’t want to set myself up for something unrealistic and then be all sad if I don’t meet them. So I did the research and I think this is a good time line for me. If I meet these goals a head of schedule, then excellent! But this is my healthy timeline.

Commitment Goals
* Attend weekly meetings regardless
* Track points every day
* Blog weekly (absolute minimum)
* Positive self-talk every day

Personal Goals
* Slowly and responsibly strengthen my back Check, now attending regular aerobic classes 11/11/08
* Take a spinning class
* Run/jog on a treadmill for 30 minutes
* Run a 5K (Well I've walked a 10K (8/31/08) so that's got to count for something!)
* Become a WW leader (maybe even one geared towards young adults, but I’d love it either way!)
* Get ACE/AFAA or some comparable group fitness certification
* Teach group fitness classes at a gym

Weight Loss Timeline
* 10 lb weight loss by End of January 2009
* 15 lb weight loss by Valentine's Day 2009
* 25 lb weight loss by May 2009
* Goal weight of 140-145 lbs - November 2009

Weight Loss Rewards
* Every 5 lbs = mani/pedi or a massage
* 10% (20 lbs) = mini shopping spree
* 30 lbs = new Coach purse
* 50lbs = FULL DAY at spa
* Goal of 65 lbs (weighing in at 145 lbs) = glorious tropical vacation

Normalcy, where are you?

Posted on February 25, 2009 at 1:00pm 2 Comments

Where did my normal, regular life go? lol...honestly, and I'm really just speaking in terms of my work life...but how did I go from only having one mandatory meeting a week to having 5...FIVE mandatory meetings a week. Not to mention all the other duties of my job but now I have 5 meetings that run anywhere from 1-3 hours every week. It's totally cut into my online life! I mean, no longer am I always up to date on my celebrity gossip and friend's status messages on facebook, lol. And even more,… Continue

That's right...I have never been so excited to say good-bye to ANYTHING like I am to be able to say good-bye to the flu! Uhhh! I've never had the flu before I hope I never get it again. That was literally the week from hell! My fever was SO high and I was actually in physical pain, who knew that was possible just from being sick! Whew! So yeah...adios stupid flu! lol...

I feel so out of touch now though! Very out of the world that is the internet and especially BTL. I was SO weak, I… Continue

Just a quick short post...I am sick with the flu (really really sick). That's why I've been MIA and I'll probably continue to be MIA for a little bit. I hope everyone is doing well.

Some Do's and Don't's I learned from this past week

Posted on February 5, 2009 at 11:01am 6 Comments

So I know I've been MIA this past week...what with the crazy weekend I will tell you about shortly and my body fighting off the flu during a million business meetings this week, it was to be expected. However, during the course of this crazy week, I've learned some things!

Things to Do:

- Do look at the menu for a restaurant before eating there, then you make good choices! (I ordered the butternut squash and grilled chicken cesar salad - both were to DIE for good… Continue

Taking orders!

Posted on January 28, 2009 at 1:38pm 5 Comments

So I'm traveling to Houston this weekend for a work meeting and that means dinner out. We are going to this really swanky place in the medical center that's on top of this water fall building, it's beautiful. I've never eaten there before but I'm sure it'll be great. I've been studying the menu online and trying to decide what I should order. Then I thought I'd get you guys' opinions!! So here is the restaurant's menu.

I'll… Continue

It's really NOT a problem.

It's not actually code, on the left hand side of your page you should see an RSS box that you can set up. Click edit and put in your rss feed address (it's in your meta area on the side bar on the weight watchen blog)

Then people can see your posts from Weight Watchen.

Does that make sense?

Hi! I set up my page really late Saturday night/Sunday morning. To get the weight loss ticker, I just pasted the code in the box below the profile box as I was setting things up.

As for the slide show, I'm not sure how that happened. I downloaded four photos via the Photo page, and when I went back to "My Page," they were there as a slide show. Magic, I guess! :D

Looking at your page, I think you may have used the area I put the ticker in to post your "Goals/Timeline/Rewards" info.
