I ran for almost 20 minutes today. I hit a wall twice and had to walk but no more than I *think* two minutes. That's still more than I've run in a while. I've run farther, back when I did this diligently. But then life interfered. I had vacations and I just couldn't get back into it. But I am doing it again now.You know it was good to watch the end of Avatar The Last Airbender (feel free to laugh but it's just an awesome show, no matter who it's target audience may be). I was cheering on Zuko…See More

Hi Kit, Just wanted to thank you for the encouraging post you put on my blog when I was complaining about my grocery store issues ;-) It is nice to hear some positive feedback when things are a little rough :) Thanks!

Hi there. You're really no different than MANYof us out here. I looked at your pictures and you are a beautiful woman. Blow off all the na-sayers with their nasty opinions and comments. When someone says something to me about gaining weight (which really is only my Mother) I say, "Thank you very much for informing me of that. I wasn't aware but appreicate that you found it important to make me feel so horrible about myself." Then I say nothing and she usually shuts up after that.
You have a good weekend and keep up the great work. It's damn hard.

About Me:

Everyone has some reason for wanting to get thin. Mine started when I was born with Medullary Cystic Disease. Fortunately, it was discovered by the time I was 2 years old and by the time I was 6, I had a new kidney, donated by my beloved mother. And for 17 years, it worked fantastically with the help of prednisone and cyclosporine. For those who know all about prednisone, I'm sure you're aghast at how long I was on it. And I had all the side effects, particularly a nearly non-existent metabolism coupled with a large appetite. I was a pudgy girl. And somehow no one seemed to think that I was painfully aware of this and most everyone I knew felt the urgent need to TELL ME.

So, age 23, my kidney is poisoned to death by the prednisone and the cyclosporine and I get a new one. Of course, I had to wait a year to get it and in the meantime, I had absolutely no appetite. That changed with the new kidney pumping out toxins again. It wasn't until I was just 9 pounds shy of 200 pounds that I realized that I wasn't doing the new kidney any favors and so now I'm determined to work hard, to be healthy and to look good.

And to anyone who wants to tell me I'm fat, hey, I made it to Camo belt in Tae Kwon Do. Watch your mouth.

I don't want to know.

My scale keeps hopping up and down, up and down. And I am so tired of it, the hope and the despair, celebrating and kicking myself. I don't need that sort of emotional rollercoaster, honestly. I want to just eat carefully, exercise, and feel HEALTHY. The numbers should not mean anything. After all, I'm not a despicable person just because I gained a pound and I'm not the world's best dieter if I lost.

So, I think I'm going to stop looking at the scale for a while. I'll still go to my… Continue

What are you loving about the process right now?

Roni asked this the other day and I have to admit that I do struggle to find what I love about running. It's hard. I sweat like my mother, I get so damp, I have to breathe hard and sometimes I even get a painful stitch in the side (though I use Coach Jenny's suggestions and I exhale when my foot hits the treadmill opposite to the stitch and it goes away within about thirty seconds). It's hard, it's exhausting...and a TOTAL… Continue

14 minutes!

I didn't think I could manage Week 4 of Podrunner Intervals. It's 3 minutes of running, then 5, then 3, then another 5 (with walking breaks in between, of course). It was intimidating until I suddenly remembered doing this week frequently when I lived back in Kansas. So, visualizing my old running route, I ran it. Well, I ran most of it, the last 5 minute segment kicked my tail and I could only run 3 of it but it still helped. I remembered the trees and the long stretch where I ran right into… Continue

Running is far less effective when you have a blister lurking on the ball of your left foot. But I powered through anyways, because I'm both masochistic and stubborn.

One of the things I have done this year to help me fill out some weightloss goals is to buy myself an Audobon planner.. Which I subsequently disliked, the pictures are far more boring this year than last. So I bought a Sierra Club planner but the type of planner is not what's important. What I do is write out my to-do… Continue
