Christy commented on HealthyLife's blog post Food is my second language
"I can definitely relate to this. I have always said that food was my mom's love language towards us. While growing up (and even now really) she showed she cared by making our favorite meals or treats. Any celebration was centered around food.…"

Food is my second language

So Friday and the weekend were not what I would call victories as far as foodis concerned. On Friday I got angry at the husband and ate a bunch of junk out of spite. Now, it would be awesome if I could say that my spite eating had no positive effect on me, but that's not really true. In fact, spite eating really did help me feel better! But I realized for the first time how connected food and emotion are for me. It was so shocking to realize how much I use food to avoid emotion, to control my…See More

Cookie Monster

So overall today wasn't too bad, but also wasn't as good as yesterday.  I woke up really hungry and struggled to feel satiated for a while.  The husband and I had a healthy lunch at Subway and all was right with the weight loss world until one of my student's parents brought a HUGE bag of chocolate chip cookies.  There they were sitting on my desk - I said no for a while and then sort of gave in to the "I'll only have two" idea.  Two quickly became six...  Such is life, right? I did have some…See More

Second day of the rest of my life

I am feeling really good about actually committing to being healthy.  Today, when I felt cravings or just wanted to go through a drive thru out of habit, I was able to say "No" and that felt so great!  When you really think about it, temptation is only as big or as little as we allow it to be.  If I just remember that I have a choice, that saying no doesn't mean forever, it just means no for right now, and that I am taking care of myself by making a healthy decision it makes the temptation seem…See More

Getting Real for the First Time

You hear people say "today is the first day of the rest of your life," all the time in those inspirational stories of weight-loss that we have all watched way too many episodes of.  It's the first day of the rest of your life - we get it, but we refuse to apply it to ourselves because that would mean we'd have to get up and make a change.  It would force us to look at our behavior on an in-depth level and we don't want to see that.  I have been struggling with my weight and eating disorders for…See More

Thank you for the sweet comment. It has been a journey for sure! I lost about 65 pounds, very slowly. Averaging less than a pound a week. It seemed so slow as I was going through it, but I realized that I have the rest of my life to live in this "new body", so by comparison, 1.5 years to lose it really isn't that long. That change in mindset helped me make decisions that I can continue for the rest of my life, which I think is the only way the weight will stay off! I look forward to keeping up with you.
