Workplace Workouts

If you’re like me, you spend a great deal of time chained to your office desk and computer. Probably the only exercise you get on a daily basis is a walk to and from the coffee machine or the restroom. I can’t tell you how many times I wish I was a smoker just so I could take advantage of a 10 minute break every hour! You CAN get a workout in while at work, but it takes a little motivation and careful planning. I’ve put together a list of exercises and tips you can try at your desk, in the…See More

Binge Eating Disorder

I didn’t realize it when I was growing up, but I had binge-eating disorder. For the most part, I ate fairly healthfully and fairly normal portion sizes. Then, suddenly, I would feel compelled to devour an enormously large portion of food. I think I realized that I ate more than a normal person the first time I devoured a large pizza…then scrounged the kitchen for something else to eat. Clearly I wasn’t hungry at…See More

Become the Master of Portion Control!

Looking back on my struggles with weight gain, I believe one of the fundamental issues that I continued to screw up was identifying the correct portion size for a given meal. Once I got my binge-eating under control and began to eat healthy foods, I still gained weight. I amped up the exercise, and I still gained weight.Unless you are carefully regulating how much food you are consuming, it doesn’t really…See More

What is my target and maximum heart rate, and why should I care?

Posted on August 5, 2010 at 10:30am 0 Comments

When I go to the gym, the cardio machines always have this nifty little chart that shows what your “fat-burning” and “cardio” heart rate zones are. When I first started out on my weight loss journey, I ignored this chart.

However, as I’ve delved into fitness a little more, I’ve learned that this

chart is very important to know, so you can maximize the kind of workout you

want: a fat-blasting workout or a cardiovascular workout.…

Pink Fuzzy Handcuffs

You’re heard the saying. “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”

I say, “When life throws you pink, fuzzy handcuffs, bust them out and make an impression.”

Hi, my name is Christine and I run a little weight-loss blog called Phoenix…

Yes you can do it!

Posted on August 3, 2010 at 10:30am 0 Comments

This morning I was making the first of three rounds of catching up with my blogs. I have the blogs I follow separated into three categories, and I do my best to hit the first group in the morning, the second around noonish, and the third in the afternoon. I seems that a lot of my bloggy-friends are having issues today finding the motivation to continue on with healthy eating, exercise, and staying committed to the promises they made themselves. I think this is due, in large part, to a hectic… Continue

Eating in Secret and Hiding Food

Posted on August 2, 2010 at 10:30am 0 Comments

Eating in Secret Do you have any "secret" food that is hidden in your house that only you know about?

Do you "hide" food away?

Do you eat in secret? At night when everyone is asleep? Do you sneak into the kitchen when your kids go outside to play?

Do you feel guilty when you eat certain things, making you want to eat them secretly?

Chocolate candy… Continue
