Profile Information

About Me:
I've been overweight my whole life, sadly. I've lost and gained my weight multiple times. I graduated college in 1999 and saw the highest number ever and swore I would never go back there. The good news is I haven't. I lost 55 pounds, then regained 25 and have played with that 25 pounds off and on for years. I lost it again last year and am up 10. My ultimate goal is to lose 30 pounds from where I am now.

I'm not a huge fan of exercise, but I do it. I run (not very fast!) and have completed seven 5ks and one 8k. I ran my very first half marathon in February - Disney Princess Half Marathon in 3:21:54. Currently training for a duathlon in June and then hitting the Philly Half Marathon in November.

Posted on February 12, 2012 at 3:29pm 7 Comments ya doin?  Everybody doing well?  How's your journey going?  Having successes?  Enjoying the ride?  I ask because I'm trying to take attention off the fact that I've been MIA for a while.  It wasn't intentional.  Well, I suppose it was.  In a sense.  Had to spend time writing things out and that just wasn't happening lately.  Even the blog has been lacking lately. 

So, what's going on with me?  Spending lots of time at the Y trying to get in shape.  I get there about 3…


Tuesday Update (1.24.12)

1. Did not cave to the desire for an afternoon snack...or a mid-morning snack for that matter

2. Didn't want to go to the gym tonight.  Thought about skipping all afternoon.  Only reason I didn't was because I signed up for kickboxing and I know there were people who wanted to come tonight who were shut out.  Just 5 minutes into the class I thought, "I'm pretty glad I didn't skip this."  :-)

Monday Update (1.23.12)

1. Survived my 1/2 mile walk to and from work (it snowed here on Saturday and the sidewalks/roads not in the best condition)

2. 35 minute walk with an incline on the treadmill/30 minute stationary bike ride

3. 1st YFit session with a trainer (lower body/cadio)

4. No left hand injuries ;-)…

OK, I know that sounds stupid.  But, I am sure you can all agree with me that sometimes it's hard to "see" you've lost weight.  I know I lost 20 pounds last year, but I've had a had time really seeing it in me physically.

Well, I compared two photographs of myself from last year wearing the same shirt taken almost on the same day in 2010 and 2011 (turns out it was 1 day apart) and ok, I see the difference...

Hi Christina, thanks for the comment!  Yes this is my first half and I am super excited!  I have done a bunch of 5 K's, a 12K and my longest run is a 9 miler.  I tried for a half last year but tried to cram the training in and hurt myself so I didn't do it.  I'm looking forward to a more leisurely training schedule.

I love riding my bike. It is a great form of exercise. I wish I could run, but my knees just cry out in pain. It sounds like you have the running marathon thing down cold. Good for you

When the weather is nice I hit my local bike trail. It is just 10 min from work and I will ride for about an hour or so. Sometimes on the weekends my husband will go with me. I just love it. I had not biked for several years, then for my birthday 4 years ago my husband bought me a nice Cannondale. It has been love ever since. I did jog, but the knees just could not do it. The bike is much kinder to them.

Healthy Belgian Waffles

Nutritional Info

  • Calories: 233.1
  • Total Fat: 8.8 g
  • Cholesterol: 65.2 mg
  • Sodium: 363.9 mg
  • Total Carbs: 30.7 g
  • Dietary Fiber: 3.0 g
  • Protein: 8.9 g




  •          3 eggs, separated
  •          1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  •          1 cup white flour
  •          1/2 cup oatmeal
  •          3 tsp baking powder
  •          1/2 tsp salt
  •          2 tsp brown sugar
  •          1/4 cup nonfat, sugar free vanilla yogurt
  •          1/4 cup olive oil
  •          3 cups skim milk




Beat egg whites until stiff.

Combine all dry ingredients in medium bowl.

Beat in wet ingredients.

Lightly fold in egg whites.

Cook in a lightly greased waffle iron until golden brown.


1/3 cup batter per waffle

2 waffles per serving


Number of Servings: 5

I completely agree, Christina!  When I first started WW, I had a wonderful leader!!  She no longer has her own meeting, but sometimes fills in.  She was SO enthusiastic which made all the difference.  The meeting I'm going to now seems pretty upbeat, so I'm happy :-)

Thanks for the nice comment Christina! You will speed up in time, if you want to! I have a fast husband and a competitive streak that has gotten me to push for the faster pace (he does an under 20 minute 5K). Right now, I'm not sure where I would fall, but I have a race or 2 planned for the summer to test myself (none as cool as your preakness one, though!).
