Hanging Out With Hubby This Weekend

I stopped worrying so much about work this weekend and actually ENJOYED my time off!  I ran the Girls on the Run 5K (with a S-L-O-W time due to some killer hills).  I ran a 39:50, one of my slowest times yet.  But that was okay.  I got out there and did it.  And I supported a great organization that encourages health and good self-esteem in young girls.  Then, hubby and I went shopping.  He wanted a few new t-shirts, I needed something to keep my hair from stinking the rest of the day.  Also, I…See More

The End of the Year, A Rant, and Why I've Been MIA

Posted on May 9, 2013 at 6:06pm 3 Comments

Thankfully, the end of the school year is upon us.  I have two more weeks left with my kiddos, and while I can say (for the most part) that this group of students is by far the best I've ever had, I can also say that I will be glad when the school year is over. I need some time to recuperate!  I've really been feeling burnt out lately.  Crispy around the edges.

This is especially true after having some issues with some students that ultimately ended up making me cry in my…

A Busy Weekend

I drove to St Louis Friday night with my hubby so that I could wake up early Saturday for the Color Run.  It was a lot of fun!  I was COVERED and soaked by the time it was over since it was raining the entire morning.  Here's a few pics from the race:

5k Fever!

Posted on April 20, 2013 at 11:43am 4 Comments

I had another 5K this morning.  It was awesome!!!  I always dread going on a run beforehand, but I never regret it afterward.  :)

This one was to benefit the elementary school's running club.  I am all about encouraging healthy habits in little ones!  It was a "color run" and they used actual "color" from the official Color Run--great practice for me since I'm doing the Color Run next weekend.  I even got a finisher's medal.  It was so cute to hear the kids on the run: "I just…

The One Time I'm Glad I Don't Have an A

Posted on April 18, 2013 at 5:30pm 5 Comments

All my life (okay, I'm actually just talking about post-puberty), I've been defined by my big boobs.  Family get-togethers were fraught with me being the butt of some joke told by my very jealous (older) female relatives.  I learned to stay out of the kitchen!  As I gained weight college and post-college, the one thing I felt I had going for me was my chest.  At least my boobs were big.  They balanced all the rest of me out.

Last week, I went to Victoria's Secret to buy a…

I love my simple raw granola recipe and thought you might enjoy it too. It is easy and will last all week. It helps the work week if I have some stuff already made.

Simple Raw Cinnamon Granola

    3 cups rolled oats
1 cup silvered almonds or nut of choice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, or more to taste
    1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    1/2 cup maple syrup

Directions:

Its easiest to use one container.

Combine dry ingredients in a plastic container.  Add the syrup and mix well until everything has been moderately saturated with the liquid. Use more if necessary, but do not use too much. Your granola will turn into one big hunk.

Cover the container and let the mixture dry overnight in the refrigerator. You can eat it if still slightly damp, but it is better completely dry. Serve with almond milk (or soy milk, depending upon your level of raw food-ness).

Thanks for your comment, Brandy. I have really been doubting myself lately about whether I'll ever get the rest of this weight off. I know practicing maintenance is a great exercise in itself but I'd rather do it after about 30-40 more lbs off!

Thanks! I have them on my list for next time. I've always equated won ton wrappers with fried foods but I can see that's not the case. I think my little start of springing back into a healthy lifestyle (for longer than 1 or 2 days) does have to do with the new foods - from breakfast to dinner.

Looking back it is just amazing. It was just a year ago that I was freaking out about a 4 mile race. I can remember 30 secs feeling like forever in the beginning and the first time I ran for 30 mins thinking, this is how long a class is. I could teach someone a new skill in this amount of time it must be forever.
It's just blowing me away what is possible when I stop giving up.

Thanks Brandy! It's good to be on here- I never really left.... just didn't post for awhile. I had quit work for awhile.... but got my exact job back and it's been crazier then ever.
