egg whites

Posted on May 7, 2013 at 1:03pm 4 Comments

I have always struggled with eating egg whites and heard about the benefits of them vs. whole eggs. I have 9 chickens and get 7-8 fresh eggs every day. So I now have an almost limitless supply of eggs to use! I have started using 3 egg whites for breakfast instead of 2 whole eggs. I scramble the yolks for my two german shepherds to devour- they love the yolks! The difference in calories is amazing- 140 cal for 2 whole eggs vs. 48 cals for 3 whites! They don't have much flavor so I like to…

summer motivation

I love this time of year. Living in Phoenix, most people dread May- it means summer temperatures of 110+ are iminent. I, however, think of swimming, watermelon, strawberries, honeydew, popsicles, and laying under the fan doing puzzles or watching movies in the afternoons with the kids. I love the freedom of the schedule and look forward to the fresh fruits and veggies that are so affordable at the grocery store! I am also motivated to eat healthy and work out because I know swimsuit time is…

Easter candy temptation, fitting in exercise

Posted on April 2, 2013 at 4:14pm 2 Comments

I realized this morning that I need to make healthy lifestyle changes one step at a time. Today's theme has been around the dreaded Easter candy. Yesterday I dumped all 3 kids' baskets into one tupperware and set it on top of the stove. This turned out to be a mistake- I snacked on the candy all afternoon and consumed enough calories to replace dinner. Of course when dinnertime rolled around I wasn't about to not eat dinner. End result- yesterday was not a weight loss day. Oh well, life goes…

New week, fresh motivation

Posted on March 11, 2013 at 11:06am 3 Comments

Here we are on another Monday! I am feeling refreshed and happy to be starting a new week. I stuck to healthy choices pretty much all weekend and have worked out consistently for the past week. I am noticing I don't have the emotional eating challenges quite as much when I work out. It gives me an outlet for all of that pent up stuff. Yesterday I went out for lunch so my weigh in might be higher because of the sodium in the food. I also ate a little too much at dinner. Trying to stop when…

We don't have much going on this weekend.  Maybe a little shopping my daughter has a gift card that she wants to use.  I plan to get my meal plan set & figure out if I need anything from the grocery store to make it happen!  I also want to make it a habit to do much of my food prep over the weekend.  Doing so helps me eat the right things all week, which is half the battle!  I might even input my week into SparkPeople, to make life easier!  I didn't eat any ice cream last night even thought the cravings I was have were intense!  Just knowing that we have 2 tubs of my favorite ice cream in the basement freezer is enough to have it call my name on occasion!

I just reactivated my account after almost 3.5 years and was looking through my friends to see if anyone was still on here. You look fabulous and it's good to see that I'm not the only one who still needs the accountability and support of BTL.

My mom did a lot of rewarding with food too. Actually, food was basically the answer to any problem or celebration in our house growing up. I'm working hard so that my kids don't have to deal with the same issues when their adults that I'm having to work through now.
