I wanted to start a group where everyone makes a point of "checking in"once a week. It doesnt matter if you go all in and post your weight to start, lbs lost, lbs gained, before during and after photos, a message to others on how you are doing, recipes, programs or if you just come in to read and observe.

i decided i'd make my first post just about me because not only am i looking for ideas or plans that are working, others to help or motivate me and a support system i am not finding here at home i am looking for friends too :)


I am 35 (where did the time go?) i am not married but engaged and have a 7 month old son. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada and have my whole life. I did the career thing for a long time, went to college then university and worked in finance to help pay for my education and then full time once i was done school. I have been through more things in my life then i think could fill a novel but the two things which have always been there driving nuts is my weight and self esteem issues. In general too much of one and not enough of the other. 


Two years ago if someone would have said i'd be sitting next to a little guy and blogging about a weight loss journey i'd have told them they were nuts. I was told kids were not really my destiny by more than one doctor and I had tried so many diets i just decided id try and settle on being fat and happy.(i dont care what people say i dont think those 2 things go together).


my family is all large and when i say we've collectively tried almost everything we honestly have. One aunt has had her stomach stapled 2 or 3 times. We've done LA weight loss, Richard Simmons, Weight watchers, Remember Susan Powter?? low fat, low carb, cabbage soup and teas i affectionately call "poop teas". We all have lost, gained, lost more and gained even more.....never really getting anywhere then a huge tragedy - my mom was diagnosed in april 2008 with stage 4 neuroendocrine cancer of the colon. Within 4 months my mom was gone.


she was my best friend, sometimes only friend and it still hurts deeply. I cant speak for the rest of my family but i watched her in the hospital being so large even just to change a dressing or pad underneath her was a chore that required extra staff. Operations and treatment was difficult due to her size and it scared me. Being fat didnt give her cancer BUT being that unhealthy didnt make it easy to treat her or make it easy to give her the best quality of life possible in her last few months of life.


Collectively we started working as a family and did our own Biggest Loser competitions and everyone was eating great, losing lbs on lbs and feeling alive. I'd say in the past year for some more than others the lifestyle change has died off. Support is still there but not like it was. many are back to the same size or bigger and i feel like the idea we had to change as a family was nice in concept but didnt work because each of us never really took a good look at why we were the way we were.


anyway thats a lot to process so ill log off for now. i am going to weigh myself tomorrow and have my fiance take some current pics of where im at and im hoping through learning about one another, talking and support i can get healthy for me and for my son.

ok so i decided to enter my starting weight on this new leg of my journey as well as some measurements. right now for those interested im following your basic plan of logging food. the Biggest Loser diet says i should be eating 2100 calories but i find it tough to fit that in (when im actually eating properly if i could eat pizza no problem lol). for the past 4 days ive hovered around 1500 which i think is fair. ive also added some exercise but not full on with it this week. i want to concentrate more on the food and routine first.


so here's some starting numbers:

Weight : 303.8 lbs

Height : 5'4 roughly

Waist: 53.5 inches

Hips: 56.5 inches

Chest: Right Bicep: 15.0 inches

Left Bicep: 14.5 inches

Right Thigh: 28.5 inches

Left Thigh: 29 inches


I plan to "weigh in"every wednesday and measure once a month.ill get the gym to check my measurements when i go next because it is tough to do by yourself.

ok the moment of truth what is my current weight and i redid the measurements (basically because i found the scale results depressing). here goes:


Weight: 303.2 lbs

Waist: 53 inches

Hips: 56.25 inches

Chest: 51 inches

R Bicep: 15.5 inches

L Bicep: 14.5 inches

R Thigh: 29 inches

L Thigh: 29 inches


im not sure if maybe my first measurements were off or not i am having to do them myself because my other half seems less than enthusiastic towards my renewed commitment.


i guess...pluses...i didnt GAIN lol i also had a tough time exercising this week with everything i had going on and the baby teething so i suppose good on me for sticking to the diet and doing what i could sustain the loss since christmas.


anyway new week, new chance to change those number. im tweaking my plan a bit so we'll see how it goes.

sorry i havent been checking in more but we had my step daughter this weekend and it was so busy im exhausted. i am suppose to go to a friend's today but i havent really had a day to tidy the house or just sit and play with baby for what seems like a week so im thinking of that bad? lol


well i have good news overall a good week. emotionally some ups and downs. i really wanted to give the isagenix program 100% and see the sucesses my friend has but to be honest i just found it to be too much so i tweaked it....used the products in a calorie reduced diet so i could still workout and take care of my responsibilities and i think the combo worked great!


Weight: 298.6 (down 4.4 yeah!!! im in the 2's)

Waist: 51.1 inches (down 1.5)

Hips: 55.5 inches (down 0.75)

Chest: 50.0 inches (down 1)

Right Bicep: no change 14.5

Left bicep: no change 15.5

Right Thigh: 27 inches (down 2.0)

Left Thigh: 27.5 inches (down 1.5)


so 4.4 lbs and 6.75 inches which i think is great. for exercise i went swimming with the baby twice for 30-45 mins, went to the gym 1.5 hours roughly, did 25 mins on the treadmill twice. i know what im doing for exercise isnt consistent but i have to kind of fit in what i can.

well normally today would be a measure and weigh in day for me but ive been sicker than a dog. i can say im proud of myself ive still be logging my food in my meal planner and exercised as much as i could even if it was just getting up inbetween taking care of the baby and cleaning the house.typically id be using being sick as a reason for an extra treat or two. i think ive neither gained or lost but that works for me :)

ive decided despite feeling like ive been rolled over by a truck to measure and weigh in anyway and to my surprise i am down :) 2.8 lbs and 1.25 inches yeah!!!! logging the food works!


Weight: 295.8 (down 2.8)

Waist: 51.1 inches (no change)

Hips: 55.5 inches (no change)

Chest: 50.0 inches (no change)

Right Bicep: 14.0 (down 0.5)

Left bicep: 15.25 (down 0.25)

Right Thigh: 26.5 inches (down 0.5)

Left Thigh: 27.5 inches (no change)
