My goal is to work myself up to running a 10km and hopefully a half marathon in the next year. Thinking about aiming for the Flying Pig in Cinncinnati. The longest race I've done is an 8km trail run…Continue

Hello all. I need some advice. No matter what I eat, when I eat, I ALWAYS get heartburn when I run. Any thoughts on this and what I can do to stop this? It's killin' me!Continue

Comment by Karen on October 30, 2011 at 4:29pm Thanks Juls, I am following this program: http://www.actionaid.org.uk/_content/documents/10k%20schedule.pdf
I've just finished week 2. I am a slow runner though, so 60 minutes won't be enough time for me to finish a 10k. But I also hope to improve my pace as I lose more weight.
How about you?
Comment by Lisa on October 31, 2011 at 9:59am 60 minutes is a pretty quick 10k pace, so don't worry about that. Most 10k races don't have that short of a time limit - if they did, no "normal" people would attempt them! Most races expect to have walkers in them, so anything up to 2 - 2.5 hours would be appropriate for a 10k race! good luck with your training.
Comment by Karen on October 31, 2011 at 10:05am Thanks! Yeah, I just said that because my program ends at 60 minutes so I'll have to train a little longer to actually be able to run a 10k, not just for 60 minutes.
Comment by Krystal Herbert on October 31, 2011 at 10:07pm Hi everyone. I just joined and wanted to say hi. I am on week 4 of Couch to 5K and loving it!!! Hope to "meet" everyone and build an awesome support network!!
well i cant say im a runner....would be runner better covers it. i think the last time i ran was maybe from a wasp BUT i see those shows where people finish marathons even dead last and i wish that was me.
where would an overweight would be runner start? is there a good book or plan or website out there that you can use to manage reaching your goal?
Comment by Lisa on November 6, 2011 at 5:15pm Hi kiki - Start here (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml) and don't worry so much about moving from week to week if its too hard. It is okay to stay on week 2 for 2 (or more) weeks if that helps you and keeps you working at it. there is no magic to having to get there in 9 weeks. Your goal could be 9 months and that would be fine too.
Almost every "runner" started somewhere and had to work up to where they are now. Set a goal - like I want to run/walk a 5k race in the spring and then want to run a full 5k race by next summer. Those are both great goals and give you something to work toward, and a reasonable amount of time to get there.
Good luck!
I'm so excited to see so many running ethusiasts!!! I have been struggling myself as I have had breathing issues for the past few months....but I have seen a doctor and have a new inhaler that I hope will allow me to get fully back into the swing of things. Going running with my running partner in 20 minutes so we'll see!! Happy Running Everyone!!
Comment by Julsbake on November 22, 2011 at 7:11am That's absolutely amazing!! The treadmill is definitely easier but I know you can do it outside too!! Good luck on the turkey trot and keep us posted on how it goes!! No turkey trots for me as I'm Canadian and our Thanksgiving was in October.....but Happy Turkey Day to those of you across the border!!
