What are your goals? Any specific races you are aiming for?

My goal is to work myself up to running a 10km and hopefully a half marathon in the next year. Thinking about aiming for the Flying Pig in Cinncinnati. The longest race I've done is an 8km trail run…Continue

Good luck on your turkey trot, my whole family is going to do one. I have been a lot like you, run really well on my treadmill, but when people are watching me I freak Out. Just get out in your mind you are not going to walk. Just slow down if you need to. I also think I can do anything for 30 minutes. You can do it:)

The Turkey Trot went "ok". The 2nd mile had 2 uphills and the 3rd mile was mostly uphill. Everyone around me was walking. I stopped to walk on that 3rd mile more times than I can count. My time ended up being 39:07. The hills got me! Oh well. Now I'm debating on whether I want to do a "Running with the Reindeer" 5k on Dec. 4th. I know the course and it will be much better then the Turkey Trot.

To Julsbake - Go for it. Sounds like you can only do better!

My turkey trot was "ok" as well. 41:07 for a course that was about 4.2 miles. I was hoping for something around 38-39 mins. But I attribute mine to the crowds - over 2500 runners in it! The start was slow, almost walking for the first quarter mile. And the end was slow - had to leave a sidewalk and go down a trail that was only about 2 people wide. But it was still fun. And that's what its all about! :-)

Hi all! I'm new to this group and excited to be here! Quick bio.. my whole life (well, since I was a teen) I wanted to be a 'runner', I just hated to run. And I have always been overweight, at least by 40ish pounds. Recently, I had an AHA!! moment and joined a local gym. No more excuses, no more looking back. In 3 months, I have lost 20 pounds, went down 4 pants sizes (18 to a 12) and ran a 5K!! I'm running now several times a week and love, love it. I'm doing 2-3 miles at time. My goal being the Bolder Boulder - a 10K and maybe even a half marathon this summer. Maybe, just maybe, I'm on the road to being a 'runner'.

Welcome Melissa! Wow, you're doing awesome with your running. My goal for 2012 is a 10k as well. Remember, we can do anything we put our minds to.

Hi - new to this group and running as well. Not sure I will be doing any real running right away, but I did start the Couch to 5k plan this week and I have started looking for races near me to set as a goal.  I am not waiting anymore to live my life. I will stay safe when I exercise, but I have always been overweight and done sports so I am ready to enjoy myself again.

Welcome Melissa and Carla!! Melissa and Julsbake... I too hope to do at least a 10km this year and am hoping to be ambitious and also do a half marathon. And Melissa....by the sounds of it you already ARE a runner!! Carla....getting started is the hardest part...just stick to it, slow and steady and if you have a bad day shake it off. We've all been there!! Best of luck to everyone with their runs and keep us posted on your progress!!
